For a few years already, Mama has been complaining that her hands ache when it gets cold in the morning. This happens especially when she spent the previous day in her garden. I've been telling her to slow down. She forgets that she's not young anymore; that she gets tired more easily now. She often ignores how tired she is and her body reminds her when she lies in bed.

She can't help it. She likes working with her hands. It was only recently that Mama started to wear gardening gloves. She may not feel the soil on her skin but at least she hasn't been awakened anymore by her aching hands early in the morning.

The tag said "3 to 9 months" but these were used only up to my little boy's 5th month. Babies sure do grow fast.

Each time he reaches a milestone in his development, a new batch of baby stuff gets added and another set of his things kept away. I've already said goodbye to his newborn clothes, mittens, blankets, and towels a few months ago. Today I'm saying goodbye to some shirts, onesies, pajamas, and shoes.

Before they go into storage, I take a photo and think of the times I have lovingly put them on, these pieces of clothing that have kept my baby warm up until they don't fit him anymore.

In my part of the world, we are currently having rotational blackouts. The water levels at the dams where we get our electricity are supposed to be at a critical level due to El Nino.

During one of those nights with no electricity, I thought of making an oil lamp and play with the camera.

My instant reaction was to blurt out, Of course, you are still first. It's just that you're in a different category now.

I couldn't make myself say it out loud. Somehow, that declaration has some shallow ring to it.

So I said another truth, the one that I've been repeating countless of times. I'm sorry i gave up on us. I shouldn't have let my insecurities get the better of me.

Two men who share the same name somehow share the same space in my heart. While I tuck the little one to bed every night, I think of the older man I named him after.
